Forester Iskak G. Dipatuan, community environment and natural resources officer (CENRO) of Kalamansig, said that the 3.26 meters female python was sighted by an informant along the mangrove area in Barangay Taguisa while the 3.31 meters male python was found by a fisherman entangled in a fishnet.

CENRO Dipatuan said that the reptiles are in good condition and fit to return to their natural habitat based on the assessment conducted by the field officeโ€™s personnel. The pythons were freed separately on November 23 and 24 in an uninhibited area in Barangay Limulan of this town by CENRO Kalamansig personnel in coordination with the concerned barangay officials.

Under the Department Administrative Order (DAO) 2019-09 otherwise known as โ€œUpdated National List of Threatened Philippine Fauna and their categoriesโ€, the Reticulated python is classified as other threatened species which is under threat from adverse factors such as over collection throughout its range and is likely to be moved to the vulnerable category in the near future.
